You know how most engaged couples head into
marriage.
They devote far more effort to preparing for their wedding than to preparing
for marriage itself. As a result, many of them flounder during that
all-important first year together as a married couple.
But you’re different… and you want to approach
marriage differently.
That’s why you’re reading this. You know that failing to prepare is like
preparing to fail. So, you’re looking for a way to head into marriage
maximally prepared. You want to lay a solid foundation you can build on for
years to come. |
Dr. Jay Lindsay’s premarital counseling will help
you prepare maximally for marriage.
He’ll help you and your partner get ready not just for a wedding, but for a
lifetime together. He’s the professional to see for state of the art,
scientifically-based premarital counseling.
Over the past 30-plus years Dr. Lindsay has helped thousands of couples,
many of them engaged and about to wed. His practice is the only one in the
Boulder area that is devoted entirely to helping couples enjoy marriage to
the fullest.
Here’s how your premarital counseling with Dr.
Lindsay will work.
In your first session Dr. Lindsay will get acquainted with you. Then he’ll
help you custom design a marriage preparation program that will meet your
unique needs… and fit your budget.
You’ll get to choose which components you want to include.
There are four components you can choose from when you custom design your
marriage preparation program.
1. The Prepare Inventory (PI)
Dr. Lindsay can use this scientifically designed and validated
assessment tool to help you pinpoint your relationship strengths and
growth areas. That way, you can build on your strengths and address your
growth areas before they cause problems.
The PI surveys a number of relationship areas including: roles,
expectations, parenting, finances, families of origin, couple
closeness, and couple flexibility.
If you decide to include the PI, Dr. Lindsay will administer it and then
interpret the results. You’ll discuss vital issues that many premarital
couples overlook.
Most important, he’ll help you make a definite plan for addressing your
relationship growth areas. You’ll move forward into marriage with confidence.
Number of sessions: 1-2
2. The Myers Briggs Personality Type Indicator (MBTI)
The MBTI is the most widely used instrument in the world for
assessing normal personality differences.
If you choose to include the MBTI in your marriage preparation program,
Dr. Lindsay will use it to help you and your partner better understand
each other’s personalities and how they interact, including potential
pitfalls.
The MBTI contains four scales: Extraversion/Introversion,
Sensing/Intuiting,
Thinking/Feeling, and Judging/Perceiving. Results from these scales are
integrated to create an overall personality profile.
With an understanding of each other’s personalities and how they
interact, you’ll avoid misinterpretations that could lead to alienation
or hostility. You’ll function more smoothly as a team. The result will
be greater harmony in your marriage.
Number of sessions: 1-2
3. Couple Communication I (CC-I)
Many relationship experts assert that the most important thing an
engaged couple can do is to learn effective communication skills.
The award winning CC-I is the most researched couple communication
course available. Numerous studies have shown that it produces very
large positive effects on communication behavior as well as increased
relationship satisfaction.
If you choose to include CC-I, Dr. Lindsay will use it to teach you
eleven specific skills that will help you to talk with full awareness,
listen with understanding, and resolve conflicts more effectively.
The new communication skills you’ll learn from Dr. Lindsay will serve
you well in the years ahead. You’ll wonder how you’ve made it this far
without them!
Number of sessions: 3-4
4. Positive Interaction Pattern Establishment
(PIPE)
Dr. Lindsay can use PIPE to help you and your partner establish
positive interaction patterns that will allow you to experience a deeply
fulfilling bond.
He also can use it to help you identify any negative interaction
patterns that have begun to take hold and help you shift out of them
before they erode your closeness.
What is PIPE? It’s an adaptation of Emotionally Focused Marital Therapy
(EFT) that Dr. Lindsay has developed for his work with premarital
couples. EFT is a
revolutionary approach with an astounding success rate of 70-75%.
If you opt to include PIPE in your marriage preparation program, then
Dr. Lindsay will use it to help you establish positive interaction
patterns. You’ll stay close all through your married life.
